Chakras: The Importance of Balance

We receive our personal energy from several sources. Our major energy centers connect to major organs that govern other body parts. Each of these main energy centers forms what we call a chakra. 

Chakra means wheel or disk in Sanskrit, and you might find it easier to think of the chakras as a disk-shaped spinning vortex within a column of energy that runs along the spine in the center of our spiritual being to balance us.


While our bodies contain several minor chakras that assist in the operation of our bodies and minds; the seven main chakras form the energy centers in our body and help provide energy to the others. These “spinning wheels” can draw-in information through colors, stones, candles or even the auras of others. Through our chakras, we perceive the health of our environment, including the people in our lives.


This begins early and continues throughout our lives.


Each chakra also represents a right that we are born with, a birthright from the Universe, if you will, that begins at our origins and at the base with our sense of self, the right to be and have. This image shows the basic alignment and right for each chakra:

During the first seven years of our lives, our environment helps establish the beliefs that can either balance or unbalance the chakras. This balance/imbalance can remain with us until we’re old enough to understand it and claim the rights that go along with the Chakras.


These seven chakra centers align along the spine. Disturbances on any level, affect you on all levels. Each of the seven main chakras is their own intelligence center. This means that each chakra is not only associated with our physical health but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief system.


Blocked energy in any one of the Chakras can cause blockages in the others so it's important to understand what each Chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.


Often, we must look back at our own history to discover what is blocking those chakras.


Our chakras develop in seven-year cycles, beginning with the root chakra. Each year within that 7-year cycle is associated not only with its major chakras but also with one of the others.  For example, the years 8-14 are the sacral chakra, but within that 7 years, year 8 will be the Sacral + the Root, year 9 will be Sacral + Sacral, 10 = Sacral + Solar Plexus, etc. We will go into this later in the book, but understanding how it all works requires knowledge of the parts, so this is the first step.

Root -- Dandelion root, any kind of root herb

Sacral -- Calendula, Gardenia

Solar Plexus -- RosemaryAnise, mints

Heart -- HawthornJasmine

Throat -- Seaweed, Peppermint, Sage

Third Eye -- Frankensence, Eyebright, Juniper

Crown -- Lavender, Lotus
